Today’s celebration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a special one for the universal church and most especially for us, the members of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary.
Historically, it was Pope Pius IX that established this solemnity as obligatory for the whole Church in 1856, and it should be celebrated nineteen days after Pentecost Sunday (or Friday after Corpus Christi).
As a community, we gathered to celebrate this great day with the Holy Mass. Speaking during the Homily, Rev. Fr. Morgan Opara m.ss.cc, highlighted the roles of the heart as an essential organ that pumps blood (which is a necessary fluid for human existence) to other parts of the body. He further talked about the duty of the ventricles as a medium for blood flow to and from the heart.
Speaking further, Jesus is the source of all goodness and we as humans are like the ventricles to propagate this goodness and kindness of God to everyone around us.
Today’s celebration is of great spiritual importance since it reminds us of Jesus’unconditional love, infinite mercy and compassion for humanity.
We are invited to respond to this love, to live according to God’s teaching and to bear witness to this love in our day-to-day activities.
May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be everywhere known, loved and adored both now and forever. Amen.
